The Trout, also known as a spotted seatrout or speckled trout, is a common estuarine fish found in the southern United States along coasts of Gulf of Mexico and the coastal Atlantic Ocean, from Maryland to the Florida. While most of these fish are caught on shallow, grassy flats, spotted sea trout reside in virtually any inshore waters, from the surf of outside islands to far up coastal rivers.
It is popular for commercial and especially recreational fishing in coastal waters of the southeastern United States. Almost all spotted seatrout are caught with hook and line, as many places have banned fishing for them with gill nets. The most common bait is shrimp, especially live shrimp, and larger trout prefer small bait fish such as menhaden. One catching technique, after dark, is to throw out a glow stick into the water and cast around it, as these fish are attracted to light.
Trout is a delicious tasting fish and you can’t beat it when it is caught fresh from the sea. This is one of the most popular fish our customers catch when we take them on inshore charters. The speckled trout that you find in the Fort Myers
& Sanibel Island areas is a real prize winner.
Not only do they have an amazing taste,
but they can get pretty big too!
