The Cobia, also know as black kingfish, black salmon, ling or lemonfish, is normally solitary except for annual spawning aggregations, and sometimes will congregate at reefs, wrecks, harbors or buoys. This fish is considered to be one of the most suitable candidates for warm, open-water marine fish aquaculture in the world.
The cobia is sold commercially and commands
a relatively high price for its firm texture and excellent flavor. It is typically served in the form
of grilled or poached fillets.
Ron was a lifelong fisherman. He had been all around the world, fishing all sorts of different waters. Montana, Japan, South Africa, you name it, he had fished them all! Now down in Florida,
he spends his time trying out different charters, bagging trophy after trophy.
When it was our turn to show him the Pine Island fishing grounds, his eyes lit up! We hit a school of jacks that put him through his paces and then he snagged something he had never caught before - a cobia. For a guy who had caught everything, this was his first cobia. We were happy to to help such an old pro feel like a first timer again!
